September 8, 2018, 6 PM | CURRENT ArtSpace + Studio | Free and open to the public
RSVP for this event here.
Kicking off a season dedicated to themes of community, Carolina Performing Arts will host Stories on Citizenship at CURRENT ArtSpace + Studio. Over the evening, featured local nonprofits (Student Action with Farmworkers, the Jackson Center, Community Empowerment Fund, Immersion for Spanish Language Acquisition, and El Centro Hispano) will take the stage for brief performances that tell stories about the people impacted by their work—through song, oral history, a readers’ theater, and more. The evening will be emceed by UNC students who are engaged in social justice work.
By bringing together campus and community in this way, CPA hopes to inspire students and community members to become more deeply invested in local efforts, promote the incredible activism in our area, and spark new ideas about what it means to be an active citizen.
Attendees will also share dinner provided by Chapel Hill institution Vimala’s Curryblossom Café, and hear from Vimala herself about her own activism through food. This event is free but RSVPs are strongly encouraged, as space is limited.
